Girls Training
Training For Young Women

In 1976 a trade-training center was started for the teenage girls that came out of Inter-Mission homes. In the beginning, the girls were given training in handloom weaving by Mr. Alexander, a retired air-force man. At the same time another unit was started in a village church to train young women, widows and destitute women in making batiks. In 1979, this batik-making unit was transferred to Aminjikarai in Madras, combining with the handloom weaving to form what was then called the “Girls Training Center” (GTC) of IID.

Training For Young Men

The IID Training School at Pallavaram, a southern suburb of Chennai, was the first of the vocational training schools. This school was started with 7 orphan boys in the year 1974 when IID was founded. In this center, young men are trained in various courses. These young men come from various children homes and orphanages supported by Inter-Mission or other missions, and are from the poorest strata of the society. Despite their difficult backgrounds they fare very well in the government examinations.
